How did the genius idea of noodles in soup come about? Where in the world did it come from and WHY DOES IT TASTE SO YUMMY?! This informational blog is for the benefit of ramen lovers and new ramen discoverers. Everyone please ramen calm as we travel back through time to the start of gloriousness.
The idea of noodles in a soupy, yummy broth first began in the 1800’s. It journeyed with the Chinese immigrants to the land of anime, Japan. Yowaken, a Japanese restaurant, is said to be the first to serve what resembles today's ramen in 1884. In 1947, the delicious, classic creamy ramen broth came to be completely by accident in Fukuoka when some silly chefs overboiled the broth and made it too creamy! It was legendary.
Ramen has 4 main flavors! Mind. Blown. These include: shio, shoyu, miso, and tonkotsu. Salt-based (MY FAVORITE!!), soy sauce-based, soybean-based (not a huge fan, but that’s just an opinion), and finally, pork bone broth.
Some nutritional secrets, hehe! Ramen provides iron B, B vitamins (functionality of cells), and MANGAnese (body form cells and sex hormones). However, I must mention that it is not considered a healthy dish, much more like a delicacy to be treasured :)
The secret to good ramen is . . . DON’T OVERCOOK YOUR NOODLES! Very much a rookie mistake. I always slightly undercook my noodles so that while I’m gathering my additions, they don’t become soggy and mushy and resemble something unappetising.
